GLC Projects is pleased to announce the successful completion of demolition and asbestos removal works at Sugar Hill Primary School in Newton Aycliffe.
Appointed as the specialist demolition and asbestos contractor, our team delivered the demolition of approximately 3,825 square metres of single and two-storey school buildings across two separate structures, making way for the next phase of redevelopment.
The project required careful planning and coordination due to the site’s proximity to a newly constructed school building. Throughout the works, access to the service road serving the new school was maintained at all times, ensuring uninterrupted access for staff, deliveries and emergency vehicles. This approach helped minimise disruption to the school, neighbouring properties and the wider community, with no complaints received during the project.
Over the course of the programme, more than 3,400 tonnes of demolition arisings were processed and managed safely, with materials segregated and recycled where possible in line with our sustainable demolition practices.
All works were delivered 100% in-house by our directly employed workforce using our own plant and equipment, allowing us to maintain full control over safety, programme and quality throughout the project.
Despite the complexity of the project and a number of changes during delivery, the team successfully completed the works ahead of the agreed completion date, demonstrating the flexibility and experience of our demolition specialists.
The project was delivered over a 10 month programme, with demolition and asbestos removal undertaken safely adjacent to the newly built school facility.
